She grew up in Metamora, Ohio and in 1967 graduated an honor student from Metamora High School. Following school, she worked as a secretary for several companies in the Toledo area, including Owens-Illinois, where she was transferred to their office in Washington, DC. She met her husband, Robert (Bob) Hawkins and following their marriage in 1978, they lived in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Kathy loved being creative and her happiest moments were spent making crafts, especially for Christmas. She also found joy in her pet dog, Mandy. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her mother, Millie Gillen of Metamora, OH; brother, Kim P. Gillen of St. Petersburg, FL; aunts, Dawn Knisel of Maumee, OH, Theresa Treadway of Berkey, OH and Bridget Demaline of Scottsdale, AZ as well as several cousins. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Paul. Friends and family may visit Thursday, January 11th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Dennis Metzger will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements by Weigel Funeral Home.
